Brook Andrew ‘The Cell’ Exhibition
Sherman Contemporary Art Foundation

Brook Andrew is an exciting, conceptually driven artist who works with installation, mixed media, neon and video. Working with striking neon installations, powerful photographic studies, prints, sculpture and optical illusions, He challenges historical and cultural conventions surrounding issues of identity, power and consumerism.

The Cell was a hypnotic, immersive, large-scale installation. A 12.5 metre by 6 metre inflatable, decorated both inside and out with Wiradjuri-op designs, The Cell required viewers to don a patterned costume before crawling via a tunnel into its patterned, cushioned interior.

The Nelson Meers Foundation supported Brook’s creation of The Cell, which premiered at SCAF between July 8 and September 19, 2010.

Why did we choose to fund this project?  The unique amalgamation of elements in this work created a multi-dimensional perspective that encouraged us to think about the world in new ways. Through such kaleidoscopic art, further connections for cross cultural diversity can stimulate new paths for social development.
