Shaun Gladwell
The Lacrima Chair
6 March - 25 April 2015

Shaun Gladwell's two-part project was exhibited across two sites: SCAF featured a major new commission The Lacrima Chair and UNSW Galleries presents Collection+: Shaun Gladwell.

The Lacrima Chair comprised of several interrelated fragments: three video works, a sculpture and a book. Each component made obvious and obtuse references to flight, distance, cultural translation and the notion of function in art. Since completing a residency at the Cité Internationale des Art in 2000, Gladwell has had an ongoing interest in French culture. The Lacrima Chair explores the cultural connection between France and Australia.

Why did we fund this project?  This is an opportunity for the Australian public to engage with Shaun Gladwell's work. The Nelson Meers Foundation is delighted to be supporting the Culture+Ideas series at the Sherman Contemporary Art Foundation (SCAF).
