The Nelson Meers Foundation is proud to have supported a book written by the Gallery’s former Head Curator of International Art, Anthony (Tony) Bond OAM, documenting and revealing the Gallery’s magnificent international collection. It is also a very personal, deeply engaging text, as Tony worked closely with the artists and, in many cases, formed life-long friendships that have allowed a continuing conversation about why art matters. 

Why did we fund this project?  It is vitally important that one of Australia’s pre-eminent art museums had its significant collection of international art documented by one of Australia’s most respected curators. The book provides an in-depth interpretation of some of the most important artists of the late twentieth century.
