Australian World Orchestra

The Nelson Meers Foundation was proud to have supported the  Australian World Orchestra (AWO), one of the most exciting orchestra initiatives in Australia’s cultural history, bringing together Australia’s most talented classical musicians from home and abroad to play together.

Following an electrifying inaugural season in 2011, the AWO returned in October 2013 to perform Stravinsky’s “The Rite of Spring” and Mahler’s 1st Symphony in Melbourne and Sydney under the baton of Maestro Zubin Mehta.

In 2015, Sir Simon Rattle, Music Director of the Berlin Philharmonic, will conduct the AWO in Australia in July, and Maestro Zubin Mehta will conduct the AWO in India in October.

Why did we fund this project?  The AWO presents a rare opportunity to unite Australia’s most talented musicians and conductors to showcase the depth of our musical talent.
