Performing Lines
New Work Development Program
Nelson Meers Foundation supports Performing Lines in their successful Creative Partnerships Australia’s Plus1 matched funding program for Agents of Change. The matched funding will allow them to invest, over three years, in creating ambitious contemporary Australian stories and showcase them on the world stage.
Performing Lines’ artists are professional imaginers and the four new works will be created in a context that allows for expressive freedom and speaks to the complexity of our time.
Performing Lines works with independent artists outside conventional company structures, whose creative ambitions require a bespoke and flexible approach. They are a national organisation with a producing presence in five states. This affords them a comprehensive overview of the national arts ecology and a clear map to meet the cultural needs of our communities. They have access to a vast network of international partners, raising the profile of Australia’s creative offer overseas. They increasingly broker intercultural collaboration and strengthen ties within our global region.
Why did we fund this project? We strongly believe in the development of new work that challenges the status quo and illuminates alternative facets of a dynamic, modern Australia. These are the works that have currency and resonance both locally and on the international stage. However these works are often overlooked for safer programming options. Performing Lines also aims to raise the profile of Australia’s cultural status through engaging in civil society networks, soft diplomacy and fostering intercultural understanding.
