The Final Quarter

This powerful documentary tells the story of the last three years of the career of AFL champion Adam Goodes. Adam Goodes was a champion AFL footballer and Indigenous leader. In the final years of his career, the cheers turned to boos. Using archival footage only, this film reveals the incidents that provoked heated media commentary and divided the nation.

The film holds a mirror to Australia and is an opportunity to reconsider what happened on and off the football field. It has sparked an outpouring of support for the former Australian of the Year after its nationwide broadcast on Network 10. The AFL Players Association's Indigenous Advisory Board said: "We want The Final Quarter to be seen by school kids across the country".

Why did we fund this project? Nelson Meers Foundation is supporting the Education and Outreach program for the film in order to see the impact of The Final Quarter further extended. The reactions to the film have been powerful and have started a nationwide conversation, and we are keen to enable the continuation of this important conversation for our future change makers. Students will have access to supported resources to help them understand the complexity this film highlights.

THE FINAL QUARTER premiered to sell-out audiences and standing ovations at the Sydney Film Festival on Friday June 7 and had six screenings at the Festival and in July all Australians had the opportunity to watch when it was broadcast on Channel 10 and WIN.

THE FINAL QUARTER and all education resources and screening guide materials will be made freely available to every school and registered sporting club in Australia that wishes to screen it.
