In August 2025, Big hART’s documentary It Starts With Us was broadcast nationally on ABC. The 30-minute film follows a group of teenagers from Frankston North, Victoria, as they participate in Project O, a school-based family violence prevention program. The documentary highlights the program’s impact and underscores the critical importance of grassroots prevention work with young people.
Following the broadcast, Big hART delivered a national social impact strategy designed to increase awareness of youth-focused prevention and advocate for greater investment in early intervention. With two in five young people affected by family violence, and prevention receiving less than 5% of total funding, the strategy was guided by a central question: how can cycles of violence be broken without sustained, meaningful investment in prevention?
Central to the strategy was a series of leadership workshops with the young people featured in the documentary, deepening their understanding of policymaking, prevention, evidence and social service systems.
