The Nelson Meers Foundation assisted in the acquisition of the study for George Lambert’s iconic painting “Across the Black Soil Plains”. The balance of the funding was provided by the Dubbo community.
This was a deeply personal project. Nelson Meers was born and raised in Dubbo. His earliest memory of seeing a ‘real’ painting was when, at 8 years of age, his father took him on his first trip to Sydney to visit the Art Gallery of NSW. He recalls seeing George Lambert’s iconic painting “Across the Black Soil Plains”, and that it made a lasting impression because it reminded him of home. We were privileged to be able to assist the Dubbo Regional Gallery acquire the study for this important work.
