The Nelson Meers Foundation supported the 2016 Biennale of Sydney’s inaugural International Artist Interstate program.
This program worked with interstate institutions such as the Institute of Modern Art in Brisbane, the Australia Centre for Contemporary Art in Melbourne and the Art Gallery of South Australia in Adelaide in order to give international artists meaningful opportunities to engage with local artists and audiences. By facilitating the participation of international artists in public talks, masterclasses and workshops, the program promotes a deeper engagement for the significant visiting artists participating in the Biennale program with the Australian arts ecology, and also creates new connections for Australian-based practitioners.
The Future Is Already Here – It’s Just Not Evenly Distributed Biennale of Sydney 18 March to 5 June 2016
The Biennale is in a unique position to facilitate dialogue between international and local artists and audiences. We believe these meaningful interactions will have an important impact upon the Australian arts community and artists, and will also enable the Biennale of Sydney to extend its geographic reach throughout Australia.
