As the climate emergency rises before them, Torres Strait Islanders are rising up too.

Testimony, from award-winning filmmaker Maya Newell, follows Uncle Paul and Uncle Pabai as they take the Australian Government to court in a landmark case demanding action to protect their homelands, culture and communities from climate harm.

Their homelands, Boigu and Saibai, sit just 1.6 metres above sea level at their highest point. For their communities, the climate crisis threatens not only land, but culture, identity and connection to Country.

Currently in production, the feature documentary tells this story through the voices of the communities at its heart — through story, dance, knowledge and connection to Country.

An accompanying impact campaign will use the film as a platform for education, conversation and action, bringing Torres Strait voices and the lived realities of climate change to audiences across Australia and around the world.
