The Australian Ballet
First Impressions Programme
In 2002, the Nelson Meers Foundation was an inaugural supporter of the Australian Ballet’s “First Impressions” Program, which allowed disadvantaged youth to attend the ballet free of charge.
“To hear the clapping, laughter and sounds of excitement from children who are in a theatre for the first time is rewarding for all involved. Over the past eleven years more than 33,000 First Impressions participants have experienced a performance by The Australian Ballet free of charge, through the generosity of patrons, philanthropic trusts and foundations. All share the vision that children, no matter what their circumstances, deserve the opportunity to attend a live performance in the theatre.”
