Widening Participation Project

The University of Sydney's Widening Participation (WP) in English Project seeks to build new, collaborative, sustainable partnerships with targeted disadvantaged schools in Western Sydney and regional NSW. Through extensive consultation with Principals and their Head English teachers, the project has established a program of learning modules designed for on and off-campus delivery to students, to support the teaching of literature and encourage pathways for students to university.

Why did we fund this project? Supporting this project allows the University of Sydney to continue to actively encourage students of diverse backgrounds to participate in higher education, fostering student aspiration and encouraging achievement at high school and into the future.

These annual events invite partner high school students to campus to engage with academics and volunteer undergraduate and postgraduate students from the Department of English in a series of learning workshops, campus tours and Q&A sessions about university life.
