Betty Blokk-Buster Reimagined

Nelson Meers Foundation is delighted to be supporting the work of Red Line Productions. This company have been at the forefront of reigniting Sydney’s legendary and wildly intimate Old Fitz Theatre over the last five years. Their productions have garnered 60 nominations, over 20 wins for various theatre awards and have been restaged with mainstage companies.

In 2020, Red Line Productions will ‘reimagine’, Reg Livermore’s original Betty Blokk-Buster Follies for a contemporary audience, with original material from 1975 updated to reflect current political, gender, and social issues. Of the original, those that saw it, experienced a show where things were said that couldn’t be said, but everyone was thinking. This reimagining will once again, shock, empower and most importantly entertain.

Why did we fund this project? Red Line Productions are a company that get the most out of their available resources, take artistic risks and work collaboratively with other artists. Within the Sydney theatre industry, they are known for sharing skills and encouraging artists to develop. 2020 will be a huge leap forward for Red Line Productions, with multiple shows touring around Australia and premiering at national festivals. A remarkable feat for a small independent theatre company.

Betty Blokk-Buster Reimagined was presented 7 – 26 January 2020 in the Magic Mirrors Spiegeltent as part of the Sydney Festival.
