Sherman Contemporary Art Foundation
Contemporary Australian Art at the NEGEV Museum of Art, Israel

Creative Currents in Contemporary Australian Art is opened in October 2017 and presented in southern Israel painting and sculpture alongside moving image and photo media installations by contemporary Australian artists from diverse backgrounds. Through the work of urban indigenous practitioners such as Australian-born Christian Thompson and Danie Mellor, and Malaysian born Simryn Gill – Israeli and international audiences amplified their understanding of the many cultures and complex histories of the vast island continent that is Australia.

The exhibition also aligned with Australian artists Shaun Gladwell’s major multi screen, virtual reality, 1000 Horses, commissioned by Gene and Brian Sherman, which premiered at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art on the 2nd November 2017

Why did we fund this project? NMF was delighted to be supporting this important opportunity for some of Australia’s pre-eminent contemporary artists to showcase their work in this important cross-cultural exchange.
