Gabrielle Nankivall - Choreography of Neon Aether
The Nelson Meers Foundation is proud to support one of two Australian female choreographers to share the bill in Sydney Dance Company's 2019 Season One triple-bill.
Gabrielle Nankivell has forged an impressive career across the globe since her New Breed 2014 commission, Wildebeest - a work that has since been on an extraordinary journey as part of Sydney Dance Company's repertoire, including a main-stage Sydney season (Oct 2016) and tours around Australia (2017), North America (2017) and Europe (2018). She created her new work, Neon Aether, to premiere in Sydney alongside Rafael Bonachela's Cinco and the remount of Melanie Lane's WOOF (New Breed 2017). As part of Season One, this work will not only be shared with audiences in Sydney but tour to Canberra, Melbourne and nine more locations across VIC, NT, SA and TAS (37 performances, including school matinees). It is also anticipated that the work will become part of the Company's ongoing repertoire.
Why did we fund this project? We are supporting the ongoing development of female Australian talent and the Sydney Dance Company in their 50th year celebrations. The SDC, under Rafael's leadership, is one of the world's pre-eminent dance companies. We strongly believe in supporting greater opportunities for our premiere artistic companies to create collaborative and innovative work.
Neon Aether was performed as a triple bill from 26 March - 17 August 2019 Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne and a National Tour including regional Victoria, Northern Territory, South Australia and Tasmania.
