NSW & ACT Arts Capacity Building Recipients Announced

18 December, 2018

The Sidney Myer Fund, Nelson Meers Foundation and W&A Johnson Family Foundation are pleased to announce the successful recipients of their co-funded Capacity Building Program for New South Wales and Australian Capital Territory artists and small to medium arts organisations.

The program will distribute $340,000.

This is the first collaborative funding project between the Sidney Myer Fund, Nelson Meers Foundation and W & A Johnson Family Foundation. Recognising the scale of the unmet need in the independent sector, the Trustees of the three philanthropic groups are pleased to be working to address this situation.

This capacity building program will strengthen and grow the independent arts and cultural sector in Australia by granting money to ensembles, collectives and groups that are highly connected within their sector, and producing excellent work. Funds will be awarded untied – to be applied as the recipients see fit in the course of their everyday activities.

This was an extremely competitive round and an important reminder of the high quality work being produced by the NSW and ACT arts sectors. Recipients were selected by the Sidney Myer Fund’s Arts and Humanities Committee and the Trustees of Nelson Meers Foundation and W & A Johnson Family Foundation with assistance from panellists Clare Britton, Kate Fielding, and Antonia Seymour.

To date the program has awarded $1.89 million to Australia’s independent artists and arts organisations.

The nine successful applicants were

Cad Factory
Catapult
Contemporary Asian Australian Performance
Moogahlin Performing Arts
Outback Theatre for Young People
PYT Fairfield
Shopfront Arts Co-op
Sydney Chamber Opera
